Leaves opposite, simple, 8–15 cm, glossy; white fragrant flowers in clusters; round yellow-orange drupes with oil-rich seeds; coastal tree with leathery leaves and woody fruit husks.
Required Growth conditions:
Prefers tropical coastal climates, sandy saline soils; tolerates salt spray, wind, flooding; thrives in full sun, well-drained soils; annual rainfall 1000–5000 mm, temp 18–33°C.
Habitat:
Coastal forests, sandy beaches, mangrove fringes, dunes; planted in coastal afforestation; common along beaches, estuaries, riverbanks in tropical coastal Maharashtra and other states.
